Lisa Stinson earned her MFA in Ceramics from Rhode Island School of Design, a BFA in Ceramics from New York College of Ceramics at Alfred University and a BA in Psychology from Wells College. As an artist and educator, she has exhibited her work nationally, presented at multiple conferences and conducted numerous workshops in both ceramic practices and kiln building techniques and design.

Her current studio work investigates her interests in mark making, as it relates to surface, pattern and drawing. Her ideas address both utility and non-functional pursuits. With a continued commitment to materials research, Lisa has utilized this knowledge to expand her making vocabulary, firing methods and the rhythms of abstraction.

Stinson received the Art Teaching Award of Excellence, 2017, has led a Study Abroad Program to Spain in 2017, 2018, 2023 and was an artist in resident at the Cite International de Arts in Paris 2019.

Stinson’s ceramic pieces include both functional and sculptural forms.   These works provide a space for shared connections. How forms relate to each other and how people engage with the work offers a unique space for conversation, sharing, and involvement.  She strives to develop a balance between the idea, the heart, and the material.

The current investigation of mark-making related to surface, pattern, drawing, and abstraction rhythms is an ongoing pursuit, as is the continued commitment to materials and glaze research.  This research has enabled Lisa to utilize this knowledge to expand her vocabulary, firing methods, and the surfaces.
