Rob Lorenz began his career in clay in 2001 while studying art education at Southeast Missouri State University. After taking a required beginning ceramics class he continued working with clay, taking far more ceramics classes than were necessary. He quickly decided that clay was a vocation he needed to pursue and began working toward a fine arts degree in ceramics. In 2005 Rob finished his bachelors degree in K-12 art education and immediately started teaching in Jackson, MO. While teaching he continued working on his BFA in ceramics, finishing in 2007.

In 2008 Rob moved with his wife to southern Illinois where he built a house, worked at Carbondale Community High School, had a couple kids, and worked as a professional potter for two years. In 2013 Rob was admitted to the masters program in ceramics at Southern Illinois University. He continued his education at SIU and through ceramics workshops for the next three years. In May of 2016 Rob graduated from SIU with an MFA in ceramics. He is currently working to set up a ceramics studio where he can once again work making pots.

I like to make pots.

I also like illustrations and telling stories, so I put illustrations and stories on the pots I make.

I also like ridiculous things that do not completely make sense, so most of the illustrations and stories I put on the pots I make are ridiculous and do not completely make sense.

I also like how pots look when they are wood or soda fired, so the pots I make with ridiculous illustrations and stories that do not completely make sense are usually wood or soda fired.

Sometimes after they are illustrated and storied and wood or soda fired the pots I make need more decoration, so I add decals and sometimes luster.

I usually like the pots I make. I hope you like them too.
