Pottery for me exists as a way to take a historically “blue collar” activity, an activity rooted in labor and day to day necessity, and apply that to ideals that I hold valuable in my own life. Knowing that pots are intended to be used as tools, gives me security to think about intended use or a pots place in the home or workplace. Knowing that I can make a form that performs a specific task affords me some amount of solace in that I am preserving the original intent of pottery. Not only to create something with some visual appeal, but also to create a useful tool. Undoubtedly a lifelong endeavor.
