My figurative sculpture focuses on self-discovery. An individual’s upbringing, childhood relationships, and home circumstances shape the way the world is seen. Sheltering is often used as a means of protection but can limit a young person’s growth and personality development. Over protecting a child can create unrealistic expectations leading to future disappointments. I use natural elements such as shells, as metaphors for relational and psychological sheltering. Symbols from geometry are utilized to invoke a sense of methodological thinking, natural order, and enlightenment. Texture and color allude to different stages of growth and development.
