Red Lodge Clay Center Short-Term Resident (AIA) 2016
I have been a professional ceramic artist for about 30 years. My current work focuses on interpretations of architectural forms, and other manmade objects.
I have taught at The Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities, in Arvada, Colorado since 1991, and have been the Ceramics Program Coordinator for The Arvada Center since 1996. In addition to running the Ceramics Education Program, I began working for the Gallery Division of the Arvada Center in 2010.
My work has been included in many public, private and corporate collections, including the Kirkland Museum of Fine and Decorative Art, the City of Arvada, Colorado, and Microsoft. I am currently represented by William Havu Gallery, Denver, Colorado.
My work is a reflection of my respect for the inventiveness and ingenuity of human beings to change our environment and landscape to meet physical, emotional and intellectual needs. My sculptures are inspired by the architectural forms and machinery we use to affect these changes. I am particularly drawn to the lines of deco and streamline moderne design. I look at buildings, architectural drawings and illustrations, cars and house wares from the first half of the 20th century for inspiration.
I have always had the need to make objects, and feel that that is hard-wired in my brain. It’s a personality trait that I can not escape from, even if I want to. I love having the ability, and opportunity, to take a figment of my imagination and turn it into a three dimensional object that can be viewed and touched by another person.
