Red Lodge Clay Center – Short-Term Resident 2008
Doug Schroder is an Omaha-based clay artist who received his MFA degree in ceramics from Wichita State University in Wichita, KS. He hasconducted ceramic workshops in Kansas, Nebraska and Arizona, sharing hiswood and soda atmospheric firing techniques. During the summer of 2007,Doug was a summer resident at the Red Lodge Clay Center in Red Lodge, MT. He is also one of the original-founding members of the annual Omaha North Hills Pottery Tour held in the fall.
Schroder has exhibited his work in many juried shows throughout the US,such as the 8 Fluid Ounces Cup Show at the LSU School of Art Gallery in Baton Rouge, LA. His work can be seen in publications such as: 500 Cups: Exploration of Unity and Grace. Schroder is currently an adjunct faculty member at Creighton University and Duchesne Academy in Omaha, NE.
Schroder’s work consists of functional plates, cups, and bowls with images stamped into and printed on the surface. The marks are recognizable images that remind the artist of people or events in his life. “These small daily interactions give us experiences building a history,” Schroder explains. “Creating these objects allows me an opportunity to pay homage to the people and experiences that make me who I am.”
