Red Lodge Clay Center – Short-Term Resident 2024
After experiencing a severe house fire in 2018, my mother and I treated ourselves to a hand building ceramic class. After that, I continued to hone my skills at Bull’s Eye Studio in New Jersey and enjoyed contributing as an assistant teacher for ceramic classes at A Maker Circle in Gladstone. After moving to Asheville NC, I expanded my artistic practice to include gouache illustrations, creating imaginative pieces that celebrate the richness of local native birds.
In 2023, I joined Melissa Weiss at South Side Studio, where I’ve been able to elevate my practice and reach new creative heights. I actively participate in holiday sales and showcase my work at local coffee shops.
Recently, I faced a significant setback due to Hurricane Helene, which resulted in the loss of all my work and studio space. Despite this, I remain committed to my craft and am excited to have received a residency at Red Lodge Clay Center. This opportunity gives me the space and time to explore more sculptural forms and to remake and refine the pieces I lost in the storm. I’m looking forward to pushing my creative boundaries and continuing my journey as a ceramic artist.
I’m a ceramic artist and illustrator based in Asheville, NC, known for my hand-built pottery and whimsical, colorful style. With a background in wildlife conservation, I have a deep appreciation for native birds, which inspires much of my work. My ceramics are characterized by vibrant hues and playful designs, often influenced by the nostalgic charm of my family’s chickens and birding with my grandmother. Over the past year, I’ve faced profound loss, and being able to engage in creative work has been incredibly important to me; my grief influences everything I create.
